Full Thunder Moon... is that you Shango?

While the new moon is a time to sow seeds, the full moon is a time to pull weeds. It is time to release the things that no longer serve us. As the moon brims with the sun’s energy, we offer her the things we would like her to take with her as she starts to wane back towards a new moon. But is this Thunder Moon & Eclipse entrenched in the energy of Shango? Given the climate of the world today, I think we can all agree that the Universe has decided to push us aside and handle some things on her own. She is sending out the energetic troops and we are here for all of it!

We are linked to the cosmos through our spirit body, and react to the changes in the planets as well as the moods and illnesses of others, to thought, emotion, sounds, light, color, magnetic fields, the seasons, cycles of the moon, tides, thunderstorms, strong winds and even the spirits of the ancestors. When there is a change in the universe and environment, a resonance is produced in the spirit of the human body which in turn affects the physical body. It is through our spiritual bodies that we “invite” contact with the divine.

Shango & The Human Body

In Yoruba Healing, Shango is considered the initiator of all change in the human ashe. If you are familiar with the Chakra system, then you will understand that Shango is considered to be the same energy region as the Root Chakra. Shango is a reflection of one’s ability to link with the Earth and to function in the natural world. At the symbolic level, Shango represents the Earth element, and is reflected in the dense or lower vibrational nature of our being. In other words, Shango is linked to the basic survival instincts, responsible for readying the body for “fight or flight” in times of stress, thus preserving the ph

Shango The Warrior

Shango is the immensely powerful Lord of Thunder, Lightning, and Fire.  Lover boy supreme, Shango epitomizes virility, male beauty, and  procreative energy. Petition him to share a little of his essence: he  provides fertility, luck in love, and male sexual prowess. Shango is  invoked for courage and justice. In Yoruba cosmology, lightning is  understood as an instrument of divine justice, retribution, and  protection. As the wielder of lightning, Shango provides victory over enemies and protects from all evil. Shango breaks hexes, curses, and  evil spells.

Whew 👀 now do you see where I’m coming from? A Thunder Full Moon with Eclipse to match, plus you know that African Dust Storm blowing over the South & Midwest seems like the ancestors taking an energetic jet over here to squash all the beef. I 👏🏽AM 👏🏽HERE 👏🏽FOR 👏🏽ALL👏🏽 OF 👏🏽IT!

Full Moon Lunar Eclipse Ritual

  1. Sit under the moonlight or near a window or door. I think being outside allows for better connection, personally.

  2. Light a candle. Bonus points if you have an Orisha Candle. These Mood Candles are hand garnished with herbs and oils, so we love these too.

  3. Write down an intention on paper. Note: I like to use a pencil or pen that is ONLY used for writing intentions. People don’t realize that the term SPELL comes from literally spelling or speaking something out… hence, Intention. So if you’re using a tool to write something counter to your intention, then the energy gets crossed. Just a thought!

  4. Smudge!!! Use your favorite smudging tool to solidify your intention while clearing your space. Different intentions call for different tools so make sure you keep a few different ones. Click here to see smudges and their uses.

  5. Burn it. (Using proper fire safety measures.) Once you’re done meditating or you feel like you’ve placed a good bit of intention into the universe, burn your Intention Note.

This ritual can help you to engage the energies of release and usher in new changes. Focus on where/how you want your life to be & then VISUALIZE IT.

The moon is such a powerful presence in our lives—pulling on the ocean’s tides, and creating a rhythm for all life on our planet. A moon ritual can be a great way to reconnect to the rhythms that we share with all life on Earth.

This powerful tool will help you to align with the ebb and flow of energy as we seek to foster a life of our dreams and release the things holding us back.
